On the back of a previous PV feasibility project, our team led by Dr Fadlallah, was engaged on. This project represents the first effort to use some strategic perspective in exploring the viability of wind energy systems across twenty selected cities and towns in Sudan. The project’s first phase focused on investigating the current wind technologies applicable to the region, after which the ideal locations for the installation were identified. In line with the client’s long term commitment to climate change, our team was also tasked to comparatively assess the wind technologies against a power plant of the same capacity using diesel fuel. Here, the project demonstrated that establishing a wind turbine-based system could save the regions almost US$0.91317/kWh on COE compared to a diesel generator system. Also, a reduction in pollutants of nearly 49 million kg/year could be achieved based on optimal sites such as Wawa, Dongola, Karima, Wadi Halfa and Al-Goled, respectively. Given the current pricing of wind turbines and the volatility of the renewable energy market, an economic analysis was undertaken which showed that a reduction in wind turbine costs by 25% could lower energy cost to between US$0.03067/kWh and US$0.03376/kWh across the assessed towns and cities. .  Extracts from the report are presented below. A scientific paper has also been presented to the larger scientific community on the back of this project (See Link)
