The brief was quite simple: the clients had earlier approached another architect to design the house, which he did splendidly and recommended us to do the interior of the hall, vestibule and dining areas.

This house is located in an unusually quiet street in suburban Ghana. The living and dining space opens up to form a single space with the pool terrace. The views from the hall enjoys terminal views towards the swimming pool area wrapped by tropical foliage whereas the rooms on the floor above the hall enjoys panoramic views out to green precincts and some fascinating urban roofscapes. The concept for the interior focused on indoor-outdoor living, maximizing natural light into the space, with openings designed to capture outdoor views, adopt less-is-more styling and use a natural environment colour scheme as an accent with the palette varying from dark browns to greens. Multiple sources of natural light including light drawn from the entry vestibule and the stairway soften the white palette of the interior we chose to use. The overall white palette is warmed by terra cotta floor tiles. In addition, the contrast established by the white and green gives the space an almost Mediterranean feel. In a bid to design with energy efficiency in mind, we remade the openings, making them bigger, and used larger sized high-quality windows, window treatments as well as a carpet for seating in the hall. The hall was planned for family and guest entertainment with possibilities for flexible arrangements and features a large handsome dining table made of acacia wood.  Since plants are known to significantly improve indoor air quality, we positioned a few potted indoor friendly greens in some hotspot areas.
